Clearly a watchful eye is vital if we are to preserve the integrity of the Capitol's multimillion dollar restoration, which was funded by the Legislature on behalf of the public. Continued public participation is essential. Support for - and membership in - the Friends of the Capitol, allows you to participate and play a role in your state's history.

Friends, and their predecessor committee, sounded the early call to rescue the historic building from the depredations of intense use, weather, and age.

The organization is now committed to bringing the full appreciation of the magnificent treasure to the public. In this respect, it has contributed equipment to the orientation room, through which thousands of school children and visitors pass each year. Additional projects are underway. In the long range plan is a permanent interpretive center, which the Friends are also committed to help fund. The center provides space and exhibits for public understanding of the Capitol and its history, as well as files and documents for scholarly research.

The restored and revitalized Capitol is ours - all the citizens of Michigan - to celebrate. Make it happen. Begin now by joining the Friends of the Capitol, Inc.
